When deciding what to wear for a wedding, it’s very important to consider several aspects, for example the type of ceremony; the character and style of the couple to be; the location and season. A main factor is that you don’t out stage the bride or groom, after all it is their big day and the attention must be focused around them all day.
For the fashion conscious, you may want to consider tying in with the wedding theme, so perhaps wearing the same colour tie or hat. Although once again, taking in to consideration the mother of the bride (who is entitled to have the biggest best hat of the day).
Often if there is a religious ceremony, you must try to cover up cleavage or shoulders in a holy place as a sign of respect, so it would be a good option to take a long a shawl or a jacket. Also light colours are always nice for wedding wear, as often black is associated with funerals or work.
It’s a good idea to wear something comfortable as well as formal as you will be walking around all day and often all night. Weddings can be tiresome events and so the last thing you need are shoes that rub. Remember also to consider layers of clothing; these are great for fitting in with both the day and evening reception. Although if a hotel reception is involved, many take a spare change of clothes.
Whatever you decide remember to keep comfortable, respectful and considerate.
