Sue Trapp gives her suggestions for a novel wedding gift as a guest blogger this month.
I love it when my friends and family invite me to share in their joyous occasions like weddings! My first thought is, Oh, what fun! The next thought is Oh, gosh, I need to go shopping for a gift! Now the question of what to give comes sweeping in! I was always in a quandary as to what to buy the new couple, especially if I don’t know what the newlyweds want or need. Finding a solution to this problem is what led me to Foldin’ Money.com
I like giving cash because it’s the most useable and practical gift I can think of. So how to give cash in a personal way that didn’t require expertise or a huge investment in time or materials became my challenge! Being a budget minded person, as most of us are, I found Foldin’ Money Kits were the perfect way to give a gift of cash in a thoughtful and personal manner and still stay within my budget!
Giving money and still looking cool doing it is what these kits are all about! They are easy to make, and always a hit with the newlyweds! I feel the satisfaction of creating a handmade gift that is practical, useable and fun to give. The real beauty of these gifts is that they can be unfolded and spent wherever the new couple wants! It’s a real memory maker!
If you want to try this for yourself, you can find designs at www.foldinmoney.com.
Top 5 Reasons Why Cash Is Better Than Giving Stuff As A Wedding Gift:
- It never needs dusting.
- If someone throws it at you, it won’t hurt if it hits you.
- It doesn’t break.
- It is always the right colour.
- You never have to worry about receipts for returns.

It is a really refreshing change to see someone else who can see the practicality of giving money to the happy couple. Lots of people seem to think they have to say that giving money as a gift is “not the done thing”.
But think about it for a minute. Most couples either live together before marriage or they have their own homes already and therefore already have pretty much everything they need. So, as you say, why not get them something they can really use…..money.
The sooner we all get with the times and realise money is more useful to brides and grooms who have just spent a fortune on their wedding, the better.
Hi Jeremy,
it is perfectly acceptable to give monetary gifts for a wedding in some cultures, so as long as it is done in the right spirit and not because people cannot be bothered to think of a gift it should not be a problem. This is why the “folding money” piece was put up on our blog as we thought it was a bit more original than an envelope of cash!
