Decorating your wedding cake table is a matter of personal choice. Whilst many go for a traditional white cloth and cutting knife laid out for the cake, others may choose more extravagant ideas for example, laying rose petals around the cake.

You may want to consider the theme of your wedding when thinking about the cake table, so if you have a purple theme, you could use a purple cloth for underneath to match the other wedding decorations.

Cake stands are great to have at the base of your cake as they elevate it so that everyone can admire the masterpiece. Although think carefully here, if you already have a tall cake, the stand may be too much.

Check with your function provider about the types of stands available. Usually there should be a choice of at least brass or silver, and most importantly make sure they have it clean and sparkling ready for your big day.

If you like the idea of a stand but you don’t want the metal showing, you can usually request for a serving cloth to cover the stand – this gives a great ruffled effect.

Flower arrangements are very popular for the wedding cake table, so speak to your florist and ask them to come up with some ideas, you need to make sure that the arrangement doesn’t take the attention away from the cake as the whole point of the cake table if to have your guests admire your work of art.

Whatever you decide, remember that the cake table is an important feature of the wedding reception. Everyone will be taking photos as you and your partner cut the cake and so getting it right is crucial.
