The Gluttonous Gardener was started 15 years ago by Ned Trier the company Director, a garden designer by trade, who was looking for something to do in the winter months when his design company was a bit quieter. He struck upon the idea of sending plants through the post with the concept that the perfect gift should contain an element for instant delight , (a food or drink item with beautiful packaging) as well as a living growing plant that could be enjoyed for years to come and would act as a constant reminder of the person who sent the gift. The company is now run by Sally Golland with a small dedicated team.
Each gift is lovingly hand packed to order in one of their large wooden crates which are lined with wax paper and hand tied with large raffia bows,

Sally Golland says “We have over the past 15 + years spoken to thousands of brides who want to give a gift (usually for the Mums) that will last. For the same price as a decent bouquet of flowers they can give a gift that will last long after the happy event. It is also a gift that is very green – all of our packaging is re-useable, recyclable or compostable. Because we still maintain our small mail order values we can go that extra mile for our customers – some customers often want to add little bits to their crates – e.g. a bottle of champagne or an extra plant and we are more than happy to do this. We have also in the past for the more extravagant brides sent out our crates as Wedding Invitations – we had one customer who was getting married in Seville and sent our Orange Crate to all of the guests. Many of our gifts get sent out to Royalty and Celebrities especially when they are getting married – because of their uniqueness”
The Gluttonous Gardener is based in Battersea, London and has their plant nursery in Newbury where they cultivate many of the plants themselves.
